Wolverines Icebreaker Tournament 2024
Format & Gameplay
Each game will be 75 minutes in length, with three 15-min periods. Please read through the following rules below. The schedule is attached to the last page of the document.
1. Only those players who are properly registered may participate in the tournament. Dressing and/or using ineligible players shall be cause for forfeiture of the game. Hockey Calgary issued rosters are required and must be on hand if challenged by any team.
2. Players, coaches, and fans must show respect for the game, their opponents, the officials and each other. Those displaying unruly conduct or causing altercations before, during or after games in or around the facility shall be removed from the arena for the duration of the tournament. NO EXCEPTIONS!
3. Suspended players must be indicated on the game sheet, by the coaches or manager, and sit out for that game. Failure to record and/or sit a suspended player will result in the team forfeiting the game and expulsion from the tournament.
4. Hockey Calgary rules, at minimum, will be in effect durings tournament play.
5. In round robin play, there will be no sudden death shootout or overtime. Standings in round robin will be based on the following points system:
○ 2 points for a win
○ 1 point for a tie
6. Round robin tiebreaker:
○ The winner of the game played between the tied teams will determine the winner ○ If the teams tied each other, the team with the highest goals for/goals against differential will determine
7. The winner:
○ If the teams that tied each other share the same differential, then the team with the lowest penalty minutes in the round robin will be named the winner
○ If the teams are still tied, a flip of a coin will determine the winner
○ Any player who receives a misconduct penalty, in the last ten (10) minutes of a game, will be required to sit out the following game. In all other cases, Hockey Calgary rules apply.
8. There will be at least two (2) certified referees on the ice for each game.
9. Playoff sudden death:
○ If the game is tied, after regulation time, a three (3) player (per team) shootout will decide the game. If extra shooters are required, due to a shootout tie, a sudden death one (1) player shootout will determine the winner (and will repeat until a winner is determined). An individual player can only participate once in the shootout. The goalie that played the game must continue to play goal in the shootout.
10. Only Wolverines are permitted to fundraise at the tournament events.
11. Each team will be permitted to have a three (3) minute pre-game warm up.
12. Given the arena's time constraints, time management policies will be strictly enforced. 13. Dressing rooms are to be left clean after each game.
14. Coaches and managers are responsible for their players conduct on and off the ice and will ensure that they act in a sportsmanlike manner at all times.
15. Judgment of on ice officials and/or tournament committee is final. No game protests will be accepted. For further tournament disciplinary action, the tournament committee will review all misconduct and major penalties.
Scorekeeping & Team Volunteers
Scores will be kept on the provided game sheets and the tournament coordinator will upload to Hockey Calgary after each game.
As per the schedule, the home team will be required to supply four (4) parent volunteers for the time/scorekeeping and penalty boxes. All instructions for the clock and score sheets will be provided in the timebox to assist those volunteers.
Heart & Hustle
At the end of each game, the coaches from both teams will choose one player from their own team to receive the Heart & Hustle Award. All players are to remain on the ice for these presentations.
