Tournament Rules

This tournament is a Hockey Alberta Sanctioned tournament. Sanction #24-900172. It will be played under Hockey Canada official Playing Rules and complies with Hockey Alberta Bylaws and Regulations with the following modifications:

There is a ZERO TOLERANCE policy for abuse in the Cochrane Arena. The Tournament Committee holds the right to ban anyone who abuses officials, coaches, players, volunteers, or other spectators.

Game times are 1 hour and 30 minutes with 1st period being – 15 minute stop time period and 2nd and 3rd period – 20 minute stop time periods. Ice will be flooded between games.

There will be a 3-minute warm-up before each game

No game will exceed the permit time. If undue delays occur for any reason and the game cannot be completed within the permit time, the following procedure must be followed:

At the first stoppage of play when time reaches five (5) minutes left on the permit, the timekeeper will notify the referee

At this stoppage in play the clock will be reset to two (2) minutes and the remainder of the game completed with stop time

Each team will play 3 round robin games and 1 final game, either gold medal or consolation. 

Game sheets for tournament games will be prepared based on roster submitted. Roster changes must be reported to the Tournament Coordinator in advance of the tournament. Manager or Coach must sign off on the roster each game. Please find the scoresheet in the Time Box and sign off prior to getting on the ice

Home teams will wear dark colored jerseys and visiting teams will wear light colored jerseys.

Volunteer requirements: Home team will provide a Timekeeper and Away team will be responsible for the scoresheet. Each team will provide an adult in their penalty box.  Home team will be responsible for music during the game.

Game MVP awards will be picked for each game by your own coaching staff after each game. No player can receive the award more than once. Please let the timekeepers know your choice.

All match penalties and gross misconducts will be reported to the Hockey Alberta disciplinary committee, as well as reviewed by the tournament committee to determine whether or not the player(s) will be suspended from the tournament. Committee rulings are final.

The tournament committee is designated to ensure tournament rules are being followed and to review grievances/disciplinary hearings. Committee rulings are final.

The two teams with the most points from round robin play in each pool will play in the Championship Final. All other teams will play in the consolation finals.

Game Points to be   awarded:

Win 2 points

Tie 1 point

Loss 0 points

Round robin games that end in a tie will remain a tie.

If team points are tied after round robin play, the following tie breaker will be used to determine placement of teams in the final games:

Winning team from the round robin game between the two teams tied.

The team with the best goal average.  The goal average of a team is to be determined by the total number of goals for divided by the total number of goals for and against (NOTE: All round-robin games are included). The highest percentage gains the highest position.

Team with the least amount of penalty minutes over all round-robin games.

Single coin toss

To break a tie in all final games, sudden death overtime will be played as follows:

Sudden death overtime, 3 on 3 for five minutes stop-time.

If still tied, a 3 player shootout will ensue.

If still tied, alternate shooters until a winner is decided. No player will shoot twice until every player has shot.
