McKnight Atom 4 Tournament

Welcome to the McKnight Atom 4 Orange Tournament.  We're happy you all are participating and wish all the teams good luck.

1.       The tournament will be played under Hockey Calgary regulations.   The Hockey Calgary Regulations Handbook is available at the Hockey Calgary website:

2.       Players must be registered with the team upon which they play according to their league. No additions shall be made except registered affiliate players.

 

3.       Each team MUST have a minimum of eleven (11) players (1 goalie and 10 skaters) at the start of the game, unless authorized by the Tournament Committee; otherwise that team will forfeit that game.

4.       Home will decide which sweater they wish to wear, all teams should bring two sets of jerseys .

 

5.       Any coaches, managers, or other team officials not behaving in a sportsmanlike and dignified manner will be prohibited from any further participation in the tournament.

 

6.       All referee decisions are final.

7..       Round robin game times with a 1.0 hour permit will have 12, 15 and 15 minute periods, stop time. Round robin game times with a 1.25 hour permit will have 15, 15 and 15 minute periods, stop time. Finals ice times will be 1.5 hours with 15, 15, and 15 minute periods to allow for shootouts and trophy presentations. No time outs are permitted. Three (3) minute warm-up before each game. No game shall exceed the time permit. If undue delays occur for any reason and the game cannot be completed in the permitted time, the following procedure will be followed:

a.       At the first stoppage of play after time reaches 5 minutes left on the permit, the timekeepers will notify the referee.

b.       At this stoppage of play, the clock will be reset to 2:00 minutes and the remainder of the game completed with stop time.

 

8.      Divisions play on a point system:

• Win  -    2 points

• Tie   -    1 point

• Loss  -  0 points

 

9.  TIE GAMES IN FINALS:  The A and B Final games that end in a tie will require a shootout to determine the winner. Coaches will pick 3 players to start the shoot-out with the Home Team beginning, teams will alternate shooters and the team with the most goals after three shooters each will be the winner. If still tied after 3 shooters, coaches will pick a different player each round and continue the shoot-out until both teams have had equal shooters and one team is ahead.

 

10. TIEBREAKERS IN ROUND ROBIN STANDINGS 

Two teams tied
1. The winner of the round robin game between the two tied teams gains the higher position.
2. The team with the most wins in the round robin gains the higher position.
3. If the two teams are still tied after 1 and 2 have been applied, the team with the best goal average gains the higher position. 
    3.1 Total number of goals for divided by the total number of goals for plus goals against.  (All round robin games will be included):

        3.1.1  Example A
            3.1.1.1 Team A has 10 goals for and 4 goals against. (14 goals total with 10 goals for = 0.714)
            3.1.1.2 Team B has 12 goals for and 6 goals against. (18 goals total with 12 goals for = 0.667)
            3.1.1.3 Team A wins the tiebreaker

4. If teams are still tied after 1, 2, and 3 the team with the fewest goals against (All round robin games played) will gain the highest position.
5. If teams are still tied after 1, 2, 3, and 4 the team with the most goals for (All round robin games played) will gain the highest position.
6. If the two teams are still tied after 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 the team to qualify will be the team with the lowest penalty minutes (All round robin games played)
7. If teams are still tied after 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 have been applied, a coin toss shall determine the winner.

Three or more teams tied
Note: The three-team tiebreaker is used to determine the seeding of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd seed. If any step in the tiebreaker only seeds one team, that team assumes that position. The three-team tiebreaker will continue to determine the seeding of the two remaining teams. At no time will teams using this formula go back to the two-team tiebreaker.

1. If three teams or more are tied, the point record established in the games among the tied teams only will be used as the first tie breaking formula.
2. The team with the most wins (among tied teams) would gain the highest position.
3. If teams are still tied after 2 has been applied, the team with the best goal average gains the highest position. 
    3.1 Total number of goals for divided by total number of goals for plus goals against. (All round robin games will be included):

        3.1.1  Example A
              3.1.1.1 Team A has 10 goals for and 4 goals against (14 goals total with 10 goals for = 0.714)
              3.1.1.2 Team B has 12 goals for and 6 goals against (18 goals total with 12 goals for = 0.667)
              3.1.1.3 Team C has 9 goals for and 2 goals against (11 goals total with 9 goals for = 0.818)
              3.1.1.4 Team C would be first, Team A would be second, Team B would be third
        3.1.2  Example B
              3.1.2.1 Team A has 10 goals for and 4 goals against (14 goals total with 10 goals for = 0.714)
              3.1.2.2 Team B has 12 goals for and 6 goals against (18 goals total with 12 goals for = 0.667)
              3.1.2.3 Team C has 12 goals for and 6 goals against (18 goals total with 12 goals for = 0.667)
              3.1.2.4 Team A would be first, Team B and C go to next step 4 to determine second and third
        3.1.3  Example C
              3.1.3.1 Team A has 12 goals for and 6 goals against (18 goals total with 12 goals for = 0.667)
              3.1.3.2 Team B has 12 goals for and 6 goals against (18 goals total with 12 goals for = 0.667)
              3.1.3.3 Team C has 14 goals for and 10 goals against (24 goals total with 14 goals for = 0.583)
              3.1.3.4 Team A and B go to next step 4 to determine first and second, Team C is third and eliminated from the tiebreaker

4. If teams are still tied after 1, 2, and 3 the team with the fewest goals against (All round robin games played) will gain the highest position.
5. If teams are still tied after 1, 2, 3, and 4 the team with the most goals for (All round robin games played) will gain the highest position.
6. If teams are still tied after 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 the team to qualify will be the team with the lowest penalty minutes (All round robin games played)
7. If teams are still tied after 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 have been applied, a coin toss shall determine the winner.
