COMMUNITY MINOR HOCKEY SEASON KICKS OFF SATURDAY

CALGARY, Alta. – Hockey Calgary is excited to announce the minor hockey season will be officially underway starting this Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014. Over 13,500 kids from around the city will be lacing up their skates for the 2014-2015 season.

“The start of the hockey season is one of the best times of the year,” said Kevin Kobelka, Hockey Calgary’s executive director. “The enthusiasm of kids returning to the ice, or stepping on it for the first time, is infectious. We’re looking forward to kicking off a great season with our players, officials, coaches and volunteers.”

Since 1949, volunteers have been integral to Hockey Calgary’s continued success. Over 4,000 volunteers will be helping throughout the year to ensure a successful season.

Hockey Calgary, a branch of Hockey Alberta, is the largest minor hockey association in the province. Hockey Calgary is the governing body for all minor hockey in Calgary from Timbits to Junior (ages 4 to 21). Currently, Hockey Calgary has 23 member associations with over 13,500 players, 2,000 coaches, and 1,200 officials.

“We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable hockey season.” said Kobelka. “This game is so much more than sticks and a puck, it’s about developing life skills, building friendships and having a lot of fun while you play it.”
