Message From Our Executive Director

October 20, 2016

A message from our Executive Director:

This weekend we open up the Seeding Round for the 2016-2017 hockey season and with it comes the excitement of the challenges ahead.  All players, coaches and volunteers will strive for excellence in hope of attaining the goals they have set for themselves, but the one goal that I hope everyone has at the top of the list is to have fun!  I look forward to getting to the rink and witnessing some great hockey, but most importantly I look forward to seeing the smiles on our athlete’s faces, as they get back to playing the game they love.

This season will again bring some change to our programs, most notably are the changes to the Atom League structure.   For those not aware the new Atom structure features reduced tiers (6 vs. 12), and more regionalized play.  We feel some of the advantages of this model, are reduced time and travel costs, greater parity, and the opportunity for players to develop more.   We will monitor these programs throughout the year to ensure they are providing an improved hockey experience for all.

Once again this year each of our divisions are managed by a League Governor and a League Chair who are responsible for oversight of their respective division.  These dedicated volunteers spend countless hours at the arena each season to ensure the leagues operate smoothly.  I personally would like to thank them for their dedication and commitment to the Hockey Calgary program, they are true ambassadors.  Of special note is our Midget League Chair team who are all back for their 3rd year, ensuring success at this age category.

At this time I would like to wish all of our players, coaches and volunteers good luck as they embark on a new season.  Enjoy the journey and the many great experiences that come with being involved in the game of hockey.

Regards,

Kevin Kobelka

Executive Director
