Every minor hockey tournament must secure a tournament sanction prior to the tournament. The Tournament Sanction Guidelines provides all the information you require in order to apply for a tournament sanction. It also outlines the specific responsibilities of the Tournament Coordinator with regards to the tournament.

If you do not have ice secured for your tournament do not apply for a sanction permit.

If you are considering hosting a tournament, read over the Tournament Sanction Guidelines (PDF) Information Sheet. To receive a sanction permit you must use Hockey Calgary's template for scheduling a tournament.

Please note all tournaments get posted on the Hockey Alberta website. There is no way to host a tournament and not have it listed on the Hockey Alberta website.

Important Deadlines:
November 5th, 11:59p.m. Deadline to request Christmas officials.

February 5th, 11:59p.m. Deadline to request spring officials.

TO REQUEST A TOURNAMENT SANCTION

Complete a Tournament Sanction Request off the Hockey Alberta website filling in all the information required in full.  You will need to complete the following steps:

• Go to Hockey Alberta’s website: hockeyalberta.ca.
• At the top left hand side of the homepage you will find a User Login area, login using:

Username: Hockey Calgary

Password: calgary

• Once you login in you will remain on Hockey Alberta home page.  
• Click on Members.  
• Click on Sanctioning and Permits.
• Go to Formsand click Tournament Sanction.
• Please follow the guidelines below when filling in the Tournament Sanction Request:

• Zone: Zone 9 - Calgary
• MHA: Your Association
• Contact Person: Tournament Coordinators Name

You will then get an email confirmation back within 48-72 hours letting you know if your request has been approved

Once your tournament has been approved Hockey Calgary will email the tournament coordinator a copy of the Tournament Sanction Permit. The permit must be posted in the arena where it can be viewed.

Upon receiving your Tournament Sanction Permit, please forward a detailed schedule to Tamara@hockeycalgary.com, in an Excel format, outlining the Date, Arena, Start and End Times. Division and the Host Team contact information. This information is used to book CZRC referees and must be submitted no later than November 5th for Christmas tournaments and February 5th for Spring tournaments. If you do not include the sanction number on this schedule you will not get any refs assigned.

Central Zone Referees Association will send an invoice to the tournament coordinator, billing the team and or association for referee fees.

TOURNAMENT SUSPENSION REPORT (PDF)

Tournament Sanctions will not be permitted during Esso Minor Hockey Week (January 13th – January 21st 2012).  They will be sanctioned during the playoffs but teams must play their scheduled playoff and provincial games.
